Beaches

PRAIA DO BARRIL
(also known as the train beach)

This beach is the closest to the villa, just a 5 minute drive away. The beach is reached from Pedras del Rey by taking a short train ride which takes you across the intervening water to the sandy island bar in a slow journey which reminds everyone that they are definitely on holiday. Alternatively there is a footpath that runs alongside the train route and takes about 10 minutes to reach the beach by foot.

During the summer months there is also the option of taking a short boat trip from the village of Santa Luzia, taking you to the east side of the beach.

The beach is long enough to offer complete isolation on one end to busy and comfortable in the other and the children will love the miniature train that travels back and forth. There is a self service restaurant and bar on the beach as well as nice cafés. You can also catch BBQs and dancing once a week. Facilities include tennis, windsurfing, beach volley ball, pedaloes.

PRAIA ILHA DE TAVIRA

Ilha de Tavira, often locally referred to as Praia das Cascas, is Just an 8 minute drive from the Villa, followed by a short ferry journey. This vast beach can be reached by driving 2km out of Tavira, then taking one of the regular 4 minute ferries costing €1 return to cross the water separating the island from the mainland. Alternatively a longer ferry journey can be made from just by the old market in the centre of Tavira.

There are plenty of cafés and water sports facilities open during the summer months. Tourism here is restrained and mostly not of the package kind so Tavira is an excellent choice for those who fancy roasting on a beach during the day but having a somewhat ethnic environment in the evening.

There are 2 main sides to this island, the first is a very quiet relaxed sandy beach which looks over the still water between the island and the mainland, a few minutes walk across the island takes you to a much larger beach which faces out to sea. For visitors with naturist inclinations there is an area reserved especially for their needs which is about one kilometer walk to the west end of this beach.
